The ‘Toy Print’ was created out of a strong desire for clean, abstract imagery after weeks and weeks of working on detailed drawings. This print is the like the palate-cleanser between two delectable, rich entrees. As a pattern, it contains an inherent repetitiveness that is almost comforting, and only two shapes: a semicircle and a line. Simple and bold.
At the core of this print, is a distinct memory of a bright orange chew-toy. When I was an infant and beginning to sprout teeth, I recall being given this specific orange ball, created for teething babies. I remember that the surface of the ball was covered with small knobs – I imagine, for babies to chew on. In any case, this beautiful toy - simple and bright - has always remained in my mind as a good design. So, now with a full set of adult teeth, when I thought about the simplest abstract drawing, I reached back in time and accessed that round, comforting shape of a bright orange toy. Simple and perfect.
