I am a “young” woman in my fifties from Johannesburg, South Africa. I studied interior design at college, but having learnt dressmaking from my mother in my youth and having done it for years, I satisfied my creative requirements during my mothering years by making clothes and household soft furnishings with an emphasis on attention to detail to satisfy the perfectionist in me.Two and a half years ago, I decided to try my hand at making handbags. This was the start of a wonderful journey for me as it combined all my previous interests and acquired skills.
I did however quickly realise that it required special training and was fortunate to be able to travel to London to study with Anthony Vrahimis, a master craftsman, on a private basis. Since then I have been making handbags, I have imported most of the leather from Italy as well as the hardware so as to ensure only good quality materials. I do everything myself, design, pattern cutting, hand detailing, construction, and once again make attention to detail a priority. My ideal is to make every bag a one off, with its own coordinated lining, with its own unique details, setting it apart from any store bought item. Creating a handbag that is visually appealing, greatly satisfying in feel and quality, as well as 100% practical for everyday use, is the challenge I love. To have others enjoy what I have created is the ultimate reward.
