I designed the Flight Pattern series in my warehouse studio on the tiny Mayo Island. Mayo Island sits between forks in the James River, which runs through the middle of my little city, Richmond, VA. As the seasons changed on the island, I watched from my studio windows while flocks of birds flew south, resting at the river then taking off again. This scarf was inspired by the memory of those flocks: the triangular shapes are abstractions of both bird form and flight formation.
I personally execute all design and making processes in my Richmond, VA studio: this scarf has been warp-painted, woven, and dyed by hand and is a one-of-a-kind piece. It is woven with medium-weight mercerized cotton (warp) and extra-fine-weight silk (weft) to create a comfortably weighted and warm piece without being bulky. This scarf is silky and soft with excellent drape in a luxuriously large and versatile size. Care is simple: wash by hand in a delicate detergent, lay out immediately after washing, and dry flat. Do not wring.
