Inspiration
Inspired by a framed baptismal certificate, dated 1909, that I found at Portobello Market, behind which was concealed a black and white photograph of its child subject, Edith Mary Baldwin in a beautiful garden.
I used the information in the baptismal certificate to investigate the life of Edith. When and where she was born, whom her family was etc. Each and every piece of this collection therefore represents another element of her life.
This surreal, 'Daliesque' pocket watch represents the inspectors prompt arrival at the Baldwin's family house at midnight, when the census report of 1911 was taken.
