The Story
Artist, prop-maker and jewellery designer Jessica de Lotz impressed on a recent visit to Vogue House. The extraordinarily creative creature disguises her Art Deco bijoux within antiques collected from flea markets and vintage fairs. So, in Jessica’s covert hands, a Thirties door bell deconstructs and unscrews to reveal a beautiful black diamond ring” - Vogue. This quote beautifully encapsulates the essence of my narrative based work and my inspirations.
From a very young age, I would love nothing more than rummaging though car boots sales, antique markets and vintage fairs and then developed an appreciation for the bizarre and old, dusty objects that I would spend hours finding - the tea stained parisian love letters, sepia photographs, identity cards, all realms of ephemera and from there on I started creating stories about the owners of these treasures and translated these into my wearible jewellery designs. Each pieces evokes memories of times bygone and nostalgia but with a subtle modern twist. In 2009, I was awarded the Coutts New Jeweller award and in 2010 I was selected to be a “Nexgem” in Professional Jeweller’s Hot 100 publication. My narrative based jewellery collections are all lovingly handmade in England and are stocked in boutiques nationally. My bestselling items are my bespoke and personalised wax seal pieces. The beauty of these being that they are individually hand stamped so each is unique. I am very excited to announce that I am a finalist for Retail Jeweller's, 'Jewellery Designer of the Year 2012' category. Will let you all know as soon as the winners are announced in July. Fingers crossed!
