Inspired by the mad tea party in the fantasy novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
“I was reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as a bedtime story to my little boys. The mad tea party is my favourite part. The Hatter complaining about time, the March Hare wearing bowtie, the riddles and the teacups made from porcelain. In a way the story reflects how I see people and life. How being strange is normal. How we are all the same, even though we are different.” - Steinunn Vala
For this collection, we brought in a team of craftsmen to help us: furniture carpenter Muggi has developed an extraordinary technique to bend strips of tanned ash and cherry wood into elegant bowties that can indeed last a lifetime. Ceramist Svafa Björg applies her mould making skills to miniature size for the fish necklaces and flower ring, necklace and earrings. All made from fine porcelain.
Dental technician Ásthildur forms the bird rings using methods and materials from her day job in making dental appliances and goldsmith Stefán Bogi makes the silver rings for the Tea Party collection at his own wonderful workshop in Reykjavík.
