The Earrings of Leaves are part of the Fairy Tale collection along with the Ring of Leaves and the wonderful Fairy Tale necklaces.
The Fairy Tale collection was designed by the Icelandic Steinunn Vala in 2009 and is the first collection for her jewelry company Hring eftir hring. The collection became a huge hit in Iceland right after it was launched giving her the opportunity to set out for more exciting adventures!
The idea of the pattern came to Steinunn Vala one day while looking through her kitchen window she noticed the first leaves of spring.
“I am an engineer by education, but I have always painted and made things with my hands. It was early spring, and I watched seedlings of herbs I had planted come up from the soil on the window sill by my desk. The leaves jumped over to the clay, and I started making patterns and experiments.
A friend saw me wear the outcome, The Ring of Leaves, and asked me to make one for her, too. Soon, enquiries and orders were streaming in left and right. Eventually, I founded Hring eftir hring.”
The leaves for The Fairy Tale pieces are all shaped and burned individually, then compiled into rings and earrings by hand in our studio in Reykjavik. Each object is unique and slightly different from the rest.
