How long have you been a designer?
My whole life!:) But realistically, Since Fall 2009. 


What advice do you have for other emerging artists? 

Being an artist is one of the most emotionally difficult career choices. Your work is a direct outlet of your heart and soul. If it is criticized, it’s like someone is criticizing an extension of your body. So, as an artist, to get over that initial hump of getting yourself out there and exposed is one of the most terrifying experiences.

I had a very lucky jumpstart with my career. I was given an opportunity before really starting my company to make fabric for Calvin Klein. Starting at such a well-respected and intimidating level such as that is by no means common. What I did when that opportunity came to me, (even though I was not mentally or physically prepared for it), was to just take it and do the best job I possibly could, and then some. I take every opportunity I can without letting the fear of being rejected in my ability as an artist get in the way. You have to start somewhere and no matter where it is, if you really want it, you will have to fight your body’s self-protection mechanisms telling you to stay safe. You have to just commit yourself,

take in the criticism and the praise equally, learn how to digest it, and keep going strong.


What do you wish you knew then that you know now? 

There are almost 7 billion people on this planet. We all have exceptionally different opinions on what beauty and style is and its impossible to please everyone. What is most important is to commit to either working for your self, keeping your style close with the occasional trusted input, or create a business that is catered to pleasing others opinions and preferences. You cannot possible make work that is going to do something for every type of viewer/customer. You have to make that decision early on or else you will go crazy trying to extend yourself too far, and you will loose yourself and never feel settled.

Boticca has helped quite a bit with the exposure of my brand.

How long have you been a designer?
I would say that I have been a designer ever since my university years experimenting with ideas, concepts and materials. 


What advice do you have for other emerging artists? 

It is very easy to stray from your ideas, especially in uncertain times. 
The most important thing is to stay confident and true to yourself. Promote 
yourself as much as possible. I use Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter as my 
main advertising tools.

What do you wish you knew that you know now?

 I am still working this one out! Hindsight is a wonderful thing. But would I have made the same decisions if I knew more then? This is a difficult 
question to answer.

The ability to deal with situations as and when they arise is always a challenge, which I enjoy. Something I wish I knew then is 
how to manage a business, especially in such difficult times. I have learnt 
a lot in the past few years, but I am still learning.



How has Boticca helped you as an emerging designer?

Boticca's selling platform has projected my brand to a much wider audience. 
Something which can take a lot of time as a self employed designer. The support they have given me is priceless. 





 What other designers on Boticca do you admire and why? 

Michelle Oh's jewellery is amazing. I particularly like her Encrusted Claw Ring. The texture she achieves is very interesting. 


How long have you been a designer?
I have enjoyed creating since childhood but it was only in my second year of university that I began to apply my passion into some semblance of a business. 


What advice do you have for other emerging artists? 

There will be times when business is quiet and you're left wondering if maybe self employment isn't for you, and maybe for some it isn't, but if you persist and continue to stay positive while not neglecting to put in the necessary hard work you will definitely see the results in due time. Be smart with marketing, assess your strengths and weaknesses and use those strengths to market yourself in the way you feel most comfortable. For me it is in online social media and its effectiveness in spreading information quickly, cheaply and to a massive audience.

What do you wish you knew then that you know now? 

I think managing expectations and being realistic with what you want to achieve in

relation to what you are able to achieve at any given point in your career is important to maintain. But then again, this is also usually something that you can only learn in hindsight through experience!


How has Boticca helped you as an emerging designer? 

One of the hardest things to do as a self-employed designer is to market and increase our brand's public presence.
Boticca offers a platform from which I can make jewelry and deal with customers directly without worrying too much about not being able to devote more time and resources to advertising or marketing. The Boticca team is excellent at representing their designers in the global press, and this kind of exposure is priceless for any upstart brand.

I am in love with Ayako Kanari's scarves, we share a studio and I am waiting for the day she will let me steal one of them... I also love
K Rothwell's mesmerizing Ltirrangui Earrings.




How long have you been a designer?
10 YEARS. 


Why did you choose to set up your own label as opposed to work for an existing company? 

Because I’m a free spirit, I like challenge and I enjoy also the entrepreneurial aspect of my work, not just the creative part.

What do you wish you knew that you know now?
My motto is: “ the best thing you can wear is your skin.” after I realized this, my design became more defined. I have a mission: to make every woman more self confident and free. Tassel for me means freedom, it is a
style of life.



How has Boticca helped you as an emerging designer? 

Boticca is giving to me a great visibility and the possibility to have an internet store at zero cost. It is a web site full of very creative and talented artists and I’m very proud to be part of the Boticca stable.

What other designers on Boticca do you admire and why? 

This season I had a real crush on huge earrings and the Suzanna Dai Windsor drop ones are the answer to my prayers…

I have quite a mixed style and Boticca is the perfect boudoire to spot amazing pieces to style my personality.
