Dorus Mhor

Chicago, United States Chicago, United States

Shortly to be uploading a colourful new collection of jewellery made from vintage Liberty of London silks!

The Story

Inspired by a lifelong fascination with ornate tweed and a Fine Art degree in sculpture, in 2010 British born Elizabeth Bloom created Dorus Mhor."It all began with a bin bag filled with remnants of luxurious colourful tweeds rescued from the factory floor of Linton Tweeds, a traditional mill based in my hometown in Cumbria and famous for weaving the original Chanel tweeds.I found a method of applying the tweed to base wooden beads, creating unique tactile gems which I linked using sterling silver and 14ct gold plated findings.

After refining my technique I progressed onto using vintage printed silks and seasonal cottons lawns from Liberty of London, crafting beads which almost appear hand-painted."At the very heart of Dorus Mhor is the celebration of British crafted fabrics. Each piece is limited edition and individually handcrafted by Elizabeth from her home studio, wherever in the world she finds herself. In February 2012 Elizabeth relocated to Chicago, where she hopes to find a new following for her uniquely British gems.
