The Ancient Greeks believed that pearls were the hardened tears of joy that the goddess Venus shook from her eyes as she was born from the sea. They also believed that wearing pearls would promote harmony in a marriage and prevent newlyweds from shedding tears. An Arab legend tells pearls were formed when oysters were lured from the depths of the ocean by the beautiful moon and then swallowed moonlit dewdrops. The Ancient Chinese thought that these gems originated from the brains of dragons.Loyalty, faithfulness, friendship personal integrity enhancement are properties associated with pearls wearing. It is said they are suitable and benefic for every zodiac sign if worn on Monday. Moreover, according to a reputable gemologist author the idea of pearly purity is inseparably linked with the name Margaret, derived from the Persian Murwari (pearl, or child of light) through the Greek μαργαρίτης, so the eeuropean names and diminutives: in Italian, Margherita and Rita; in French, Marguerite, Margot; in German, Margarethe, Gretchen and Grethel; and in English, Margaret, Marjorie, Madge, Maggie, Peggy, etc.
