This beautiful and unique ring of mine celebrates traditional folk lore where these magnificent creatures are portrayed as cheeky thieving rascals.
I find magpies endlessly fascinating because of the rich and complex social lives they lead. Just like us there responses and interaction with the world and everything in it are more driven by their inert curiosity than by darwinian survivalist tendencies. Darwin is known to have admitted that the essentialist nature of the human consciousness did not tie in with his theories. New scientific research into magpies behavior confirms that in their mental capabilities they have more in common with us that they do with other corvids such as crows. One of the most remarkable things that has been discovered is that magpies are the only non mammal that can recognise itself in a mirror. I marvell at their beauty and their brains!
This ring is created by playing with the form of the magpies talons after i transmuted them into solid silver. Once the ring itself looked and felt great to wear I coated the sterling silver in a thick layer of 24K gold. This ring is pictured with a 7mm smokey quartz.
