Charlotte Linton's Java collection sees Ermantrude sail to Java, Indonesia to study the threatened Javan Rhinoceros and the resident birds of the Krakatau islands. Whilst there she learns of the rich culture of the Sundanese people, researching the Wayang theatre and beautiful batik textiles. She also makes field notes on her observations of night dwelling mammals, such as the ghostly Flying squirrel and the Fishing Cat.
The collection mirrors the deep greens of the low lying jungle, the yellows of the durian plantations and the black shadows of the Wayang kulit.
Multicoloured Javan style bird cages adorn this scarf, alongside wildlife found in the markets.
