Royal Wedding competition winner, Sari Glassman, makes her picks with 3,972 votes

Posted in by

Our guest curator this week is Sari Glassman, who won our Royal Wedding competition after receiving 3,972 votes for her set. Sari also happens to be a wonderful jewelry designer on our site.

Sari lives in Modi’in in the center of Israel. She studied Mathematics which she taught for ten years until her son Elai was born and diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Due to his condition, Sari quit her job and stayed at home to take care of him full time. Being at home allowed her to pursue her passion for art and jewelry design, which played a big part in her life as a child. “Elai returned art to my life, and I’m grateful to him for it.”

Sari’s inspirations are usually connected to strong colors and dominant shapes. She likes “things that have presence, to have a ‘say’”. She usually likes to wear black but her accessories and shoes are what make her stand out. She rarely looks at fashion magazines or style blogs and prefers to buy from boutique art designers due to their uniqueness and innovation.

And if she couldn’t be a more amazing person, Sari will be selling her competition prize and donating the funds to EDEN Kids, a foundation focused on helping children with Elai’s condition.

Congratulations, Sari!

Gioielli by Nikki Baker

With all the excitement around wedding season, this week we are delighted to welcome Nikki Baker to Boticca!

Nikki is a native of Los Angeles, splitting her time between London and New York. She has spent a considerable amount of time living in Italy and spending time with artisans, which is one of the most important inspirations for her work. Hence one of her fine jewelry collection Lusso

From the arabesque patterns of the Sapphire and Tangerine quartz earrings in the vibrant Gran Bazaar to her breathtaking Denim & Diamond earrings in the Goddess collection, the colors and shapes in Nikki’s brainchild Gioielli are a reflection of her exotic world travels.

If you can’t decide where to start, I would recommend sifting through the classic grace of her Bridal collection to begin for some romantic inspiration.

As Nikki says: “These wedding-ready pieces will put a sparkle in your eye”.

How to Accessorize your Wedding Day Look

Posted in by

From ‘Kate and Wills’ to Kate Moss and her impending nuptials, it seems the whole world has got wedding fever! The press have been speculating about ‘Waity Katy’s’ outfit since the Royal Wedding was announced – no doubt countless brides will be looking to her for style inspiration. For more cutting edge bridal-wear, Kate Moss will be bringing her impeccable personal style to the altar when she ties to knot with Jamie Hince this year – we cannot wait to see what she picks!

But dress watching aside, Spring is the season when wedding invites flood in, and with them comes a whole host of style dilemmas.

Whether you’re a Royal, supermodel, or mere mortal, dressing for the big day is no mean feat for brides. Once you’ve finally found your dream dress, picking accessories that complement but don’t overwhelm it can be a nightmare! If you’re a guest or part of the wedding party, then the pressure’s on to stay stylish without upstaging the bride.

But brides-to-be, don’t fear – to help you with your dressing dilemmas, we’ve created a guide to accessorizing your wedding day look – whatever you’re planning for the big day. All you need to worry about now is the wedding favours, if the DJ’s good, who’ll catch the bouquet…

City Bride

The Venue: A chic and small city wedding in a registry office or town hall, followed by an intimate reception in a local haunt, like a buzzy restaurant or bar.

Style Inspiration: Fashion forward brides like Kate Moss.

The Dress: Impeccably stylish, vintage or designer, your dream dress will be simple and understated but bang on trend – a shift or a short lace long-sleeved number.

The Accessories: Add drama to a simple outfit with out-there accessories. A Butterfly Fascinator looks chic pinned onto a low bun, and an Orchira pearl and turquoise necklace sits beautifully over a shift, or under a suit jacket.

Fairytale Bride

The Venue: With no expense spared, this romantic would pick a dream venue like a fairytale castle, a cathedral in Italy, a hillside retreat, an old country manor or estate. The reception will be in a great hall, a lavish country hotel, or anywhere with inspiring views, with an impressive guest list and a feast of food.

Style Inspiration: Gwen Stefani’s Galliano creation (despite his recent fall from grace) was sheer romance. Or Katie Holmes at her lavish wedding.

The Dress: Strapless, with a huge skirt, a veil and train, and detailing like pearls, lace and embroidery.

The Accessories: A dreamy dress deserves classic but elegant pieces – like this pearl necklace. A cuff made from antique lace and pearls will make your outfit even more unique.

Boho Bride

The Venue: Non-traditional, and probably outdoors: A sprawling, run down country house, in a park or forest, a boutique festival, a field or farm, or a beach. Guest list – a bunch of your best friends who will drink and dance until dawn, a good old family get-together, or just the two-of you on an exotic escape.

Style Inspiration: Sienna Miller, or a seventies style icon, like Talitha Getty or Stevie Nicks.

The Dress: Either vintage Victoriana in floaty chiffon, a seventies maxi, or sixties and short in lace or crochet.

Accessories: Hippie influenced pieces with an exotic edge – gold jewellery with brightly coloured gems. Paula Mendoza’s jewelry fits the bill – we love her cocktail ring and leaf shaped earrings.

Classic Bride

The Venue: Super-traditional – a pretty church or historic home. Everything, from the food and flowers to the décor to the music will be meticulously organized and super tasteful.

Style Inspiration: Kate Middleton, naturally. Posh and elegant but not too over-the-top.

The Dress: A class, strapless column dress in pale cream satin, and no fussy detailing.

Accessories: Dareen Hakim’s cream clutch is the perfect partner to a classic dress. Ista jewelry’s adorable Love Birds necklace is romantic but understated.

Look 2: 1930s Hollywood Glamour

Lusan Mandongus Gown (2011 Collection)

Every bride wants to steal the show as she walks down the aisle as the leading lady on her wedding day. What better way to get in touch with your inner star than take your inspiration from the icons of the silver screen?

Hollywood’s most glamorous leading ladies, Jean Harlow, Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo, inspire this classic look.

Steal their style with a sleek, sophisticated, classic creation reminiscent of the glamorous gowns of 1930s Hollywood.  This beautiful silk satin gown from Lusan Mandongus 2011 collection is the perfect dress to accessorize to recreate the glamorous iconic look.

During the 1930s, glamour and extravagance were the hallmark of Hollywood, and the Monte Carlo collection from Suzanna Dai captures the essence of the era beautifully.

Made of crystal-filled petal appliqués, this beautiful Monte Carlo Argent necklace with matching earrings and cuff complete the look to transform you into a Hollywood screen goddess for your red carpet moment.

Look 3: Let Them Eat Cake

Ian Stuart’s Marie Antoinette Look

The Marie Antoinette look symbolizes grand decadence, and for the bride who likes to make a unique statement of her own, the theatrical gowns and provocative style that define Ian Stuart ‘s latest collection ‘Revolution Rocks’ were made for each other.

Oversized skirts and elaborate embellishment are key this season with tones of ivory, purple, gold, crocodile green, lavender, powder pink, lemon and lime. Krista’s R’s hand-embroidered accessories embrace the theme whole-heartedly. Influenced by historical costumes, ball gowns and accessories of past centuries, her fresh color harmonies capture the spirit perfectly.

Accessorize the look with Krista R’s opulent Dreamesque Necklace, paired with Rinnie earrings from Oddfishie Designs to give your ensemble added drama.  Don’t forget the groom and treat him to a colorful Marie Antoinette Handkerchief by Helen Ruth to complete the magnificent look.
