Designer Interview: Maya Magal

Before she found jewelry design, Maya Magal studied textiles at university. But even as a textile student, she found herself using her materials to make jewelry, so she knew she had to try a different direction. Maya learned the jewelry trade during a four-year apprenticeship with Oxford-based jeweler Tony Thomson. Now, she makes her own statement jewelry in the heart of London. She experiments with colors and materials, incorporating everything from bright druzy quartz to black diamonds into her jewelry. We had the chance to see Maya’s studio in the heart of London’s jewelry district, Hatton Garden. Maya showed us a few of her stones and explained how she makes one of her gorgeous, original rings. From raw stones to affordable diamonds, Maya’s creations are truly original.
