New Year, New Style

Posted in by

1. Invest in accessories. Iris Apfel, Lady Gaga and Rachel Zoe; what do they all have in common? They know their way round an accessory drawer. As every fashionista worth their grain knows, there is no quicker styling tip or indeed time enduring trend than accessories.

We love Gemma Redux’s Liz bracelet

2. Make a change. While there is nothing wrong with a signature piece, we are betting you would feel like a whole new woman if you made a few changes style wise. Are rings your thing? Why not try stacking those bracelets instead? Known for your oversized totes? Then challenge yourself to a down size and try a clutch. After all, fashion is meant to be fun so why not mix it up every once in a while.

3. Support an emerging designer. Thanks to Boticca you can discover hidden gems from Morocco’s souks, peruse markets in Tuscany and even discover vintage gems from India without ever leaving your desk. With interaction between customer and designer being easier than ever, from asking a question, requesting a bespoke piece to simply leaving feedback, why not make a fashionable friend on the other side of the world?

4. Add a splash of color. We know it’s practical and it sure is easy but plain, simple colors aren’t going to win any awards in the style stakes. Make it a New Years resolution to dip your toe in the key fashion trend for 2012 and add a dose of color to your day. For essential inspiration, look to the Queen of color, Leandra from themanrepeller.com or Boticca alum Roxy from cupofte.blogspot.com. Color wise, we love:

I’ve always loved Gemma Redux’s geometric, art-deco themed jewelry and these earrings are no exception. The combination of black and gold is beautiful.

Who wore it better?

Posted in by

With a limited number of ‘it’ dresses and a multitude of celebrities, it’s inevitable that sometimes, shock horror, celebs will be seen in the same ensemble. Here we take a look at these style twins and in a bid to make every look individual, we show you how the help of some unique accessories would win the style war every time.

Cat Deeley Vs. Tulisa Contostavios

We say:

Two British stars, and two very different ways of wearing this stunning Matthew Williamson frock.

Starting with the lovely Cat Deeley. Seen at the Teen Choice awards, this ‘So you think you can dance’ host nearly, very nearly, pulls this look off perfectly. With a fabulously chunky ring worn on her index finger, the only thing that lets this long time Matthew Williamson fan down is her clutch. With the tone of the bag almost melting into the hue of the dress, we would have preferred to see her with something bolder, something quirkier like Dareen Hakim: Le Beiruti Champagne Gold clutch

On the other side of the pond, judge on the British ‘X Factor’ and pop sensation Tulisa manages to make a dainty dress look heavy with the wrong accessories. Choosing emerald drop earrings makes this ensemble far too matchy matchy, we would have swapped the green for a bold gold like Gemma Redux’s Spikes Earrings. Choosing a bold index ring like her blonde counterpart, Tulisa’s ring fails to bring the bling. We would have liked to see her in something more cutting edge and bold like Joanna Dahdah’s Plain Double Loop Ring

So, who wins the style race? Let’s hear it for the blondes as Cat Deeley wins this heat.
