Who wore it better?

Posted in by

With a limited number of ‘it’ dresses and a multitude of celebrities, it’s inevitable that sometimes, shock horror, celebs will be seen in the same ensemble. Here we take a look at these style twins and in a bid to make every look individual, we show you how the help of some unique accessories would win the style war every time.

Nicole Richie Vs. Sarah Carroll

We say:

Donning their summery Keepsake frocks to enjoy the very last of the summer sun in Los Angeles both of this week’s celebrities manage to make this dress totally different. While yellow might not work on everyone, combined with her honey highlights this color really pops on Nicole. Everyone’s favorite fashionista, her studded clutch works perfectly but with the bold bangle on the same arm, the two start to fight for attention. We would swap the bracelet for a bold, gold necklace a la Becky Dockree’s Feathered Angel Wings Necklace.

Flying the flag for blondes is Sarah Carroll looking pretty in pink. Now, while we love her cutie pie simple look, something about it all is just making us a little flat.  First, we would add some Rough Sparkle Stackable Rings Set by Bita Pourtavoosi to fully bring out the beauty of her clutch. Next we would add something to toughen up the look a little, to give it a bit of an edge and nothing is better for this than the Tiger Skin Cuff by Dominique Lucas. Bold yet distinctly feminine, this is the perfect color and effect this dress is calling out for.

So, who wins this time? Nicole, Nicole your style is so effortlessly elegant, you are the winner in our books every time.

Interiors and lifestyle guru Slim Paley brings eclectic chic to Boticca

Posted in by

Considering Slim Paley only started her beautifully eclectic lifestyle blog on what she calls ‘a wing and a dare’ she really is having the last laugh now with her blog becoming the go-to guide for interiors and lifestyle inspiration.

Never one to sit still for long, Slim has called London, Vancouver, New York, Tokyo and LA home with her roots now firmly planted in California. With a love for travel running through her veins, Slim has visited Africa, India, Thailand, Greece and Bhutan in the last few years, using each trip as a valuable source for her seemingly endless inspiration.

Describing her blog as a combination of ‘travel, fashion, interiors, gardening and books – an eclectic brew’ Slim admits that despite all the critical acclaim for her blog, her greatest accomplishment is her 25 year strong marriage and her two sons.

And that’s not all – we have more from Slim here.

Erica & Lauren from HonestlyWTF share their obsession with jewelry, accessories & anything handmade

Posted in by

We started HonestlyWTF as a conversation piece between two long distance friends, who share a love of fashion, DIY, art, travel, and eclectic finds. Both of us grew up in the same coastal town in Southern California so naturally, our style will forever be inspired by beach culture. We’re also heavily influenced by our travels & years spent living in New York City, Spain & France. And although our personal style is unique to each of us, we both share an absolute obsession with jewelry, accessories and anything handmade!

The bright idea

Posted in by

As those pesky adverts keep telling us; ‘The futures bright, the futures orange’ only it isn’t just orange, its green or blue or pink or yellow, basically any color as long as it could double for a road worthy safety vest. On the tube this morning, I counted a whopping eight girls all swathed in colors that before this summer would have had people reaching for their sunglasses (especially at 8am) but no more, color is here and by the looks of the District Line, it’s here to stay.

So as an avid follower of fashion, I am left to wonder how best embrace to this new, and dare I admit it, confusing trend without looking like I have dressed in the dark, like wearing eye popping neons comes oh so easily to me. After all, everyone is doing it so why shouldn’t I?

After much investigation and several shopping trips (of increasing success) I think I have summers hottest trend down.

Ready, here goes;

Block it. Think dinner in a smart restaurant not rave in a disused barn. This trend is all about mixing and matching, pairing the bright fuchsia dress with a simple cream and gold Bardot clutch by MOJO. This is about people remembering your ensemble, not running for cover.

It’s all in the combinations. Although you can feel free to throw your grandmothers mantra of ‘red and green should never be seen’ out the window, there are certain colors that simply wont mesh. Classic examples include pink and red and blue and purple. However, for all those rule breakers out there, if you really can’t resist, keep your accessories simple and for this, anything from the classically elegant Joanna Dahdah is ideal.

Obvious not obnoxious. Although this trend is all about brights, unless you want to look like a Jersey Shore cast member, keep neons to an absolute minimum.

Last but certainly not least, have fun. Don’t let this trend wear you, if you don’t embrace it with confidence you will certainly stand out and not for the reasons you wanted. For best results, start small, think Rail Clutch by Poupee Couture, Folie scarf by Dominique Mosley or Saint Turtle Necklace by LeiVanKash.

Wardrobe Magician Shops the Boticca Closet

Posted in by

“Closet organizer to the stars” Melanie Charlton has streamlined the wardrobes of Liv Tyler, Beyonce Drew Barrymore, Eva Longoria and countless other A-listers. Kicking off her career in fashion at a luxury goods PR firm, she has since worked as a reporter for Style.com, a fashion stylist and director of public relations at Anne Klein.

But now, this super stylish lady has devoted herself to transforming our own wardrobes. Using her keen eye for fashion, she has launched Closette, a personal closet organization service, designed a line of storage solutions and written Shop Your Closet: The Ultimate Guide to Organizing Your Closet With Style.

Melanie is all about making your current wardrobe work, rather than buying countless new outfits every season, and with a mantra of “Thou shalt hang as much as possible in thy closet”– she sounds like our kind of lady!  So we asked the style expert which Boticca pieces she would choose for her own wardrobe, and how she would wear them with what she already has.
