Bags for the Bold

Brown clutch by Costella Handbags

Honey Taylor Leather Clutch Bag by Costella

Costella’s bags are not for wallflowers, but they are fabulously fun pieces. This croc embossed foldover clutch in honey is quite classic, but the gold studs give it an edgy look. Designer Luciana Ellington says she designs with strong, independent women in mind, so she’s not afraid to go bold with her bags. They’re really fun pieces. I think every woman should have a Costella handbag for the days when she wants to be extra bold.

Fresh Talent Alert – January 11th

Posted in by

Meet our newest crop of independent designers.

V. Sabrina

V. Sabrina’s imaginative collection recalls the Age of Discovery, when European explorers set off in search of new worlds. The Tokyo-based designers behind V. Sabrina work to capture that feeling of discovery by creating incredible jewelry that preserves exotic specimens, inspired by the journeys and spoils of these early explorers. They create necklaces that double as brooches, with curious specimens such as gemstones, beetles and other organic finds preserved under glass. In addition to representing this Age of Discovery, the collection serves as a physical embodiment of the fictional character Sabrina Venditti, expressing elements of her personality and tastes.

EDAYA

EDAYA’s Japanese co-founder Ayaka Yamashita was still in graduate school when she traveled to the Philippines and met Edgar Banasan, an indigenous bamboo craftsman in the Cordillera region. Skilled craftsmen like Edgar uphold generations of local traditions, using bamboo to craft musical instruments, but globalization has marginalized this community and threatens these traditions. Ayaka wanted to help introduce these traditions to the rest of the world, so she and Edgar launched EDAYA, a collection of bamboo jewelry inspired by Kalinga instruments and handmade by Edgar himself.

Earmuffs by Little Fille

Leia by Little Fille

Here’s one way to beat the winter blues: Dress like a space princess. Stay with me. Little Fille’s giant earmuffs are modeled on the famous hairstyle worn by Princess Leia, the heroine of the Star Wars franchise. Don’t they look fun and insanely warm?

A Wearable Film By Electronic Sheep

Wool scarf by Electronic Sheep

SCENE 6 - EDGE OF TOWN scarf by Electronic Sheep

Electronic Sheep’s designers Brenda and Helen are graphic artists and illustrators, so they love to add their illustrations to comfy wool scarves. Their latest collection is “a knitted film” and features noir-ish film stills on every scarf. Their Scene 6 – Edge of Town scarf is a fantastic storyboard in black, white and red – my favorite one from this collection. I’m planning to pick one up soon and keep it at my desk to keep me cozy on cold days.
