Inspiration moodboard by Kirsten Gilder

Inspiration moodboard by Kirsten Gilder

“Living in the North of England, on the edge of the Lake District, my natural surroundings have directed elements of my work, the color, the dramatic lights, landscapes – all that nature can throw at you. I can appreciate it for all its dismal beauty.”

Kirsten Gilder makes the most amazing moodboards to inspire her stunning silk scarves. This one is my favorite – there’s something so attractive about these wild images.

The Happiest Necklace

Seratonin Necklace by Emily Alice

Seratonin Necklace by Emily Alice

Jewelry designer Emily Alice makes jewelry that represents the molecular structure of serotonin, dopamine and other hormones that engineer our emotional responses. This necklace is serotonin, which is responsible for your feelings of calm and happiness. The lace-like structure of the necklace is beautiful and I love the meaning behind it. Imagine wearing happiness around your neck – it certainly beats an albatross.

Love Stories feature

Let’s be honest: Valentine’s Day isn’t anyone’s favorite holiday. When I brought up the topic with the rest of the team, we all gave a little cringe. We wanted to find a way to celebrate the holiday without turning to red roses and candy hearts. We decided to use our favorite cinematic love stories to celebrate love – not just romance, but the enduring love of great friendships, too. Click here to read the feature and if you truly love Valentine’s Day, let me know!

Cabbage Is King

Cabbage Is King’s jewels are satirical treasures. The brand is the work of jeweler Greig Alderman, who once worked with a magician in Venice during Carnevale – a bit of that entertainer’s spirit permeates his collection. His masterful works are eccentric and many carry a message about the way we live now. With hints of Dadaism and Surrealism in every piece, these postmodern jewels can be dark, but every piece has a mischievous twist.

Wool neckpiece by !KAPPIO!

Wool Oversize Neckpiece by !KAPPIO!

Despite the team’s best efforts, our London office is absolutely freezing today! As I fight the chill with a soup-sized cup of tea, I find myself wandering over to !KAPPIO!’s page, where my eyes were immediately drawn to the Wool Oversize Neckpiece, a cuddly roll of wool that vaguely resembles an Elizabethan lace ruff. A statement piece, sure, but who can beat a cozy collar that doubles as a pillow when you need a surreptitious nap? Shhh, don’t tell the boss. I’ll be back in five…

Meet our newest crop of independent designers.

Hayley Gerry

Hayley Gerry’s jewelry is inspired by a complete sensory experience. Growing up in western Wales, Hayley watched wild winds batter coastal stones, slowly changing shape with the weather. Her interest in natural forms and organic textures never waned, though she pursued a career in overseas development. She recently fulfilled her dream of becoming a silversmith and now creates jewelry that explores opposing textures and impermanence. Contrasting smooth and “bubbling” surfaces mix with layered elements, forming tactile jewelry that is unforgettable.

Gia Belloni

Jewelry designer Gia Belloni uses her work to encourage thoughtful contemplation of the natural world. Bees inspired her current collection, Colony. Though bees are often considered a nuisance, Gia finds these industrious little creatures fascinating. “Bees are 70% of the world’s pollinators, meaning if anything happened to them, we would be in trouble,” Gia says. “Our crops, livestock, plant life and so much more would suffer.” Marked by a polished finish and a commitment to creating a collection with meaning, Gia Belloni’s jewelry tells a story.
