In today’s Fresh Talent Alert, we’re doing a round up of some new limited edition handbags and other leather works, made with love by the skilled and patient hands of designers from both sides of the Atlantic.
To find Monaco Metropolitano’s studio in Florence, you need to pass the ancient walls of an old convent. Each of MM’s pieces are entirely handcrafted according to old, timeless techniques of Italian artisans. No machines involved. Each piece is unique.
We love the Carruba belt (below), made out of selected black veal leather. The brass oxidized buckle in a ceratonia leaf’s shape truly makes it a wearable piece of art.
“Il faut être léger comme l’oiseau et non comme la plume.”
The inspiration for Milan-based ilariamai‘s Comme l’Oiseau collection comes from this line from one of Paul Valery’s poems (which means “one needs to be light as a bird and not as a feather”).
Each handle structure can fit double-face sacks, thus giving the chance to always have a different style. One bag? No, many bags!
Ilaria personally sources the materials for each of her one-of-a-kind bags as she loves knowing that each of her customers can have their own unique Comme l’Oiseau bag. None of you are the same so why do your bags have to be?
Kempton & Darrow
The daughter of a racehorse trainer and jockey who won England’s famous Grand National race in 1967, Fiona Kempton always had equestrian influences which have translated into her designs: from the leather of her old riding boots, to heavy waxed canvas of the horses’ rain rugs, leather straps and buckles, these details permeate her creations.
It all started when Fiona, tired of struggling trying to carry many different bags when traveling, thought that was time for us ladies to have a stylish option to the old laptop bag. So she teamed up with her friend and fashion entrepreneur Jaime Darrow to form Kempton & Darrow.
And there you are, we can now be chic and no longer geek with our laptop bags!
