Designer Interview: Julia from World of Wonderful

Describing her designs as for intelligent and open-minded women who want to make a stand against mass-produced fashion, Julia Stanescu of World of Wonderful handbags’s  genuine love for her product is contagious. Hailing from Romania, we talk to this charismatic young designer about her life-long desire to create unique clutches and why when she needs inspiration for this, she looks to nature.

Hello Julia – Can you please tell us a bit more about yourself.

First of all, thank you!

I live in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. I’ve  studied advertising and communication and graduated with a degree in advertising in 2009.

How did you decide to become a handbag designer and why?

After graduation I asked myself: ‘What do I love to do the most in life?’ and I realized that since I was a child I’ve been cultivating my mind to visual arts. When I was a child I was always drawing fashion sketches or creating clothes and accessories in order to be different. I always expressed myself better through visual communication and creativity. I feel a strong happiness when I design a fashion creation on my own. I’ve realized that this is how I express myself freely.

The feedback I’ve received in the last year for the bags I am designing has been fantastic and it gave me courage to go carry on designing.  I feel very happy when I meet ladies who identify with my philosophy and who wear my creations with enthusiasm.

I’ve realized that to some fashion is a passion but for me, it is an art form and a way of expressing myself naturally.

What one thing has shaped your career?

Passion. And more than that, perseverance and the patience to achieve my goals.

What advice do you have for other young up and coming designers?

Be yourself and express your personality naturally in everything you do.  In this way you’ll distinguish yourself from the others. Follow the rules and then break them to create something innovative and unique.

What is it about handbags that you love?

I’m completely in love with clutch bags & oversized clutch bags. The bags I create have a versatile style and delicate colors. I can easily mix them with any outfit.

You have said that you are inspired by spring, why is this?

Yes I am inspired by Spring although nature in all its forms is my greatest source of inspiration. Spring is the inspiration behind the newest World of Wonderful Collection: Blossoms.

Why Spring? I think because it gives me energy and positivity. It has the power to influence my mind in a positive way. It embraces me with its light and enthusiasm. It surrounds me with its fragrance. Like a powerful elixir, spring revives my hopes, it breathes life and teaches me the lessons of renewal and rebirth.

How would you describe your designs?

World of Wonderful bags are simply designed but with a unique charm. They are versatile and suitable for different styles and outfits. Some of them have an innovative design which means they can be worn in many ways.

World of Wonderful creations are made to empower women to have a positive attitude and to wear colorful accessories; they enrich a woman’s outfit with a contemporary, feminine and discreet charm. It is a simple way for them to express their joy.

They are designed to delight women through minimalism, uniqueness and limited edition fashion. All the World of Wonderful products are created to bring specialty and individuality.

If your designs were a celebrity who would they be?

Penelope Cruz. She is so natural and full of life.

What do accessories mean to you?

I strongly believe that accessories give personality to any outfit. I have always created my own accessories because of the need to express myself and to wear something different. To some fashion is a passion. To me it’s more than that it is a form of expression; it’s art. 

What 5 accessories do you believe every woman should have?

A colorful clutch bag. It brightens up any outfit.

A great pair of sunglasses. It is essential not only for our eyes, but also it makes us to look mysterious and sexy.

A multicolored silk scarf. I’m in love with the floral one from Alex Suh. I never travel without a scarf.

High-heels.

And last but not least, I’m in love with the contemporary jabots made with lace and pearls (neckwear), which are available soon on World of Wonderful.
