How did you come to design handbags?
I always loved working as fashion designer, however even when I shouldn’t have been designing handbags to go with clothing collections for companies which I worked for I always did. It was while doing this at one design house that I my position was changed to Accessories designer and thats were my direction in design was solely focused on handbags and accessories.You worked as a fashion and accessories designer for several years in London, Italy and China. What was that experience like ?
I loved every one of my different positions in the design houses I worked for across Europe and China. They were quite varied in the types of companies they were and the ranges they made, so this gave me great insight into the difference between designing using the best materials possibly and not being limited by budgets, to having to use the most economical toned down materials, and work them into equally as interesting and sales driven collections. After all my work experience and moving from country to country every few years, I wanted to have a base somewhere in Ireland and try to make my own label. So there was no where better to go than to go to Sligo my home town where I had a large connection of supports, which I knew I would need while starting up a handbag label by myself.Where did the name for your company come from?
I was born ANA FAYE, its on my birth cert and I always liked my name. Sadly my father died when I was 8 years old and after some years later my mum remarried, and so my name which I always loved was gone. So when I was to think of a name for my leather handbags I wanted to bring back my surname which I had always loved. Only months after launching Ana Faye, you won Best product at Showcase Ireland 2009 chosen by President McAleese. That was an incredible achievement, what difference has it made to you and your business?
Winning these awards at Showcase has been very important in many aspects of my business, getting my label stocked in shops nationwide and also abroad. It also gave my just born collection a great big stamp of approval which was a great motivational tool in keeping moving forward.How would you describe your signature style?
I suppose my signature style would be innovative creations which are outstandingly refined and elegant – using pure clean geometric lines juxtaposed with elegant curves.7.
