Alexandra de Curtis
Rome, Italy
The Story
Born to a German mother and Italian father, Alexandra de Curtis grew up in Rome, Italy and then moved to California where she graduated in Art History and Communication from Santa Clara University. After six years in the advertising industry, including stints at various advertising agencies in San Francisco and London, and an inspiring job at Vogue UK, Alexandra decided to take the plunge and set up her own business. Her entrepreneurial passion for the fashion business started as a sideline to her day job.
During evenings and weekends, Alexandra opened her home to friends and fashionistas selling Italian luxury shoes and bags from her flat in London. Realising she needed more technical and design experience, she enrolled at the prestigious Cordwainers College in London and studied Fashion Accessories. In 2005 she moved back to Rome and setup her first business, Alexandra Bee (www.alexandrabee.com), after discovering a gap in the market for well organised and stylish baby changing bags. Her first collection was designed with working women and mothers in mind, while drawing inspiration from her travels and friends. Her main aim was to make women feel stylish and empowered, even while they lug all their baby paraphernalia around. Lovers of Alexandra Bee bags include Holllywood 'A' list stars - Courteney Cox, Angelina Jolie and Naomi Watts, as well as socialites, City high fliers and busy mums alike. Then in 2010, Alexandra decided to expand into the fashion accessories market and launched Alexandra de Curtis, an exclusive collection of crocodile and python embossed leather handbags. In order to meet the need of an ever changing fashion market and global economy, her designs embody a chic elegance and represent today's concept of affordable luxury - premium products at a reasonable price.Inspired by style icons such as Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly, Jaqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn, her label epitomises today's 'modern chic' woman; she is a lawyer, a manager, a mother. But most importantly, the Alexandra de Curtis woman appreciates understated luxury and uses her accessories to add a touch of subtle opulence to her outfit.Alexandra de Curtis bags are handcrafted in Italy by skilled artisans and are entirely made with Italian quality materials. Her bags are designed from fine leather and natural materials and are available in a variety of colours.
